As you may know, there has been a measles outbreak in West Texas, and the college is taking proactive steps to ensure the health and safety of our community. Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads through coughing, sneezing, and close contact. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that usually starts on the face and spreads.

To protect yourself and others:

  • Check your vaccination status. The MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine is highly effective in preventing measles. If you are unsure of your vaccination status, contact your healthcare provider.
  • Monitor for symptoms. If you experience fever, rash, or other symptoms, seek medical attention and avoid public spaces.
  • Practice good hygiene. Wash your hands frequently, cover coughs and sneezes, and avoid close contact with those who are ill.

If you have been exposed to measles or have concerns about your health, please use this link for guidance and reporting: Ector County Disease Reporting Contacts | Texas DSHS. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our campus safe.
