Construction Management Bachelor's Degree Program
The Construction Industry is the fourth largest industry in Ector County, and has an average annual wage ranging from $51,648-$107,364 according to the Texas Wages data from 2020. Local economic data shows that the demand for residential and commercial construction has and will continue to rise in part due to the 17% population growth over the past 10 years. The need for a highly qualified workforce both in the construction trades as well as management is critical to the Permian Basin economy.
Students earning a Bachelor's Degree in Leadership and Management with a specialization in Construction Management will be prepared for leadership and management positions and have an opportunity to experience a fulfilling career in the construction industry. The Construction Management specialization combines leadership and management principles with a focus in residential and commercial construction, project scheduling, budgeting, safety and subcontractor management. After completing an AAS in Construction Management or similar technical and applied studies degree, students pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management will obtain the essential management and leadership skills to successfully oversee the planning, design, maintenance, and building of residential, commercial, and Municipal infrastructure projects. Possible career paths upon graduation can include: Construction Foreman, Construction Supervisor, Field Operations Supervisor, Field Supervisor, Insulation Foreman, Roustabout Field Supervisor, Sheet Metal Foreman, Site Superintendent, Project Manager, Quality Control Inspector, and Construction Estimator.
General Requirements
Applicants for entry into the Bachelor of Applied Arts & Sciences in Leadership and Management degree must satisfy the following minimum criteria:
1. General Admission to Odessa College.
2. Compliance with Texas Success Initiative requirements (TSI).
3. Completed an approved AAS degree from an accredited institution, or be within 15
SCH of completion.
4. Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.
ExxonMobil Bachelor's - Leadership and Management
Students interested in completing the ExxonMobil Bachelor's in Leadership and Management must meet the general admission criteria above for admission to the program. Students who have been admitted to the program and are within 15 credit hours of completing their AAS degree, and currently enrolled in those courses may, with the approval of the Dean and Department Chair, enroll in no more than two (2) upper-division courses. Students are expected to maintain Odessa College Academic Progress requirements as outlined in the EGA (Local), Student Handbook, and available online. The college seeks to preserve the spirit of the community college Open Door policy for new ExxonMobil Bachelor's in Leadership and Management students while ensuring they have the prerequisite skills for success. Admission to the program will be capped by capacity and therefore students will be accepted in order of application and registration.
ExxonMobil Bachelor's - Leadership and Management – Construction Management Track
In addition to the above requirements, students interested in completing the ExxonMobil Bachelor's in Leadership and Management with a concentration in Construction Management will be required to have completed their AAS in Construction Management or related field. Approval of "related field" degrees will be the responsibility of the Department Chair for the program. This review and approval process mirrors multiple collaborative review processes at the institution, including review of transfer credits, between Student Services and Instruction and does not require new documentation.
