Grants are state or federal monetary awards that the student does not have to repay. 

To apply, you must show eligibility on the FAFSA and have an acceptable major.  Unless otherwise specified, students must also meet the institution’s Satisfactory Academic Progress standards regarding grades and hour completion.  (See Application Information for more details.)

Federal Pell Grant

Pell is a federally funded program for undergraduate students obtaining their first bachelor's degree.  Funds are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need with a FAFSA and who meet federal eligibility requirements.  The award amount is based on expected family contribution (EFC), the cost of education at OC and the number of hours enrolled.  Students enrolled less than half time may qualify.  Pell is the foundation of financial aid and serves as the starting point in the aid process.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

SEOG is a federally funded program established to help students with exceptional need as determined by the FAFSA.  The amount received may vary depending on availability of funds and is awarded on a first come, first serve basis.  A student must be enrolled in at least 6 semester hour.  Priority is given to students who have no other aid besides Pell.

Texas Public Education Grant

TPEG is a state grant for students with financial need as determined by the FAFSA.  Funds are awarded on a first come, first serve basis and the amount received may vary depending on availability of funds.  Students must be enrolled in at least 6 semester hours and priority is given to students who have no other aid besides Pell.

Texas Educational Opportunity Grant

TEOG is for Texas residents who are entering freshmen, demonstrate need through the FAFSA, have an EFC of 2000 or less and enroll in at least six credit hours.  Funds are limited and are awarded on a first come, first serve basis with priority given to students who have no other aid besides Pell.  To maintain eligibility, the student must meet the school's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements at the end of the first year.  For ongoing years, the student must complete at least 75 percent of the hours attempted in the prior academic year and have an overall college grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5.  Students who meet program academic standards can receive awards for up to 75 semester credit hours, for four years, or until they receive an associate's degree, whichever comes first.

Texas Completion Repayment Grant Opportunity

The Texas Completion Repayment Grant Program is part of the $94.6 million fund established to provide essential emergency support to college students who have been most significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is designed to assist students who have an outstanding balance at Odessa College and have not earned a credential or degree. The maximum award per student is $1000. 

Texas Reskilling and Upskilling for Education (TRUE)

The TRUE Grant Program is part of the $94.6 million fund established to accelerate the number of high value credential opportunities offered to students in the state of Texas. The program targets students in Odessa College's automation and construction management programs and is designed to assist with economic recovery due to the COVID-19 pandemic and help create a future competitive workforce in Texas.

 

Beginning with the 2010-2011 year, institutions are required to collect a statement from each TEOG recipient prior to the disbursement of funds confirming eligibility in regards to the controlled substance restrictions of the program.
